Mohali Police has filed a charge sheet in court against sacked Health Minister Vijay Singla. In the charge sheet, it has been demanded to prosecute the accused Singla under sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar, who is investigating the case, has filed this charge sheet. Singla was arrested on May 24 on charges of taking commission in contracts allotted by the health department. He was granted bail on July 8.
The case pertains to Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, meaning acceptance of any bribe by a public servant other than lawful remuneration, punishable by a term not less than six months, which may extend to five years. Section 8 is a serious charge, punishable by up to seven years in prison. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni, Singla was arrested on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.The former minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Pradeep Kumar was also arrested. However, Singla described these allegations as baseless.
