Covid-19 is making a concerning comeback across several parts of Asia, nearly five years after it first emerged. Financial hubs like Hong Kong and Singapore have reported a significant rise in cases, while countries such as China and Thailand are also facing fresh outbreaks. What makes this wave especially worrying is that it comes during a season when respiratory illnesses usually decline.
In response to the surge, Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection has issued a public health alert. Albert Au, head of the Centre’s Communicable Disease Branch, stated that the percentage of respiratory samples testing positive for Covid-19 has now reached its highest level since last year. Health authorities are urging the public to stay cautious and follow preventive measures.
