The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed a four-year suspension on wrestler Bajrang Punia for refusing to provide a dope sample during the national team selection trials on March 10. Initially suspended on April 23, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist was also barred by the World Wrestling Governing Body (UWW).
Though Bajrang appealed and had his provisional suspension temporarily revoked by NADA’s Anti-Disciplinary Doping Panel (ADDP) on May 31, the latest decision confirms his ban after NADA issued its notice of charge.
Bajrang Punia’s Career in Jeopardy Following Doping Suspension
Bajrang Punia’s refusal to comply with anti-doping regulations has led to a four-year ban, putting his wrestling career at risk. The wrestler, who won bronze at the Tokyo Games, was accused of failing to provide a sample during March trials.
The UWW supported NADA’s initial suspension, and despite a temporary reprieve granted in May, the ban has now been finalized. This decision marks a significant setback for Punia and Indian wrestling.
