An elderly woman in Chandigarh’s Sector-27 market was the victim of a daring robbery on Tuesday morning. Four masked men broke into the home of Raksha Sharma, 82, holding her hostage at gunpoint and escaping with gold jewellery valued at Rs 40 lakh and Rs 35,000 in cash.
Police reported that the robbers entered the first-floor flat of the SCF (shop-cum-flat) by scaling a transformer grill near the property. Once inside, they locked the gates to prevent any interference and restrained Sharma before ransacking the premises.
The victim, whose husband passed away last year, had been living alone above the family-owned hardware shop, with her son settled abroad. The heist, which took only 30 minutes, has left local residents alarmed about security measures in the area. Police are actively pursuing leads in the case.
