Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Bajwa has been booked by state police following his controversial statement alleging that “50 bombs have entered Punjab.” The case, registered on Sunday, accuses the senior Congress leader of spreading false and provocative information that could jeopardize national unity and security.
Sources indicate that the FIR was lodged at the Cyber Crime police station in Mohali. Bajwa has been charged under Sections 197(1)(d) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to the dissemination of misleading statements that may threaten the integrity of the nation or incite hatred and discord.
Police Question Partap Bajwa, CM Mann Demands Answers
Earlier the same day, a two-member police team visited Bajwa’s residence to question him about the origin of his statement. The development came shortly after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann criticized Bajwa for making such explosive claims without proof and publicly demanded that he disclose his source of information, hinting at a possible link with hostile foreign entities. “Where did this information come from? Does he have a direct line to Pakistan?” Mann asked during a press interaction, calling Bajwa’s statement irresponsible and dangerous.
Partap Bajwa Seeks More Time to Appear Before Police
Despite being summoned to appear at the Cyber Crime police station in Mohali’s Phase 7 by noon on Monday, Bajwa, through his legal representative, has requested an extension until 2 PM on Tuesday. He cited the late arrival of the police notice on Sunday night as the reason for his inability to comply with the original timeline.
