A few days after being detained by the Punjab Police at the Chandigarh border following the meeting with the Central delegation, the police shifted Jagjit Singh Dallewal to a private hospital in Patiala. It is pertinent to mention that Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on a hunger strike for over months now. He has been protesting at the Khanauri border where the Punjab Police and Haryana Police have cleared the protest site.
The move to shift Jagjit Singh Dallewal back from Jalandhar has surprised a lot of people as Patiala was the epicenter of the protesting farmers who had blocked the national highway near Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
As per sources, the government took a decision late Saturday evening to shift Jagjit Dallewal to a private hospital in Patiala. Notably, a former Punjab Police cop is taking care of the administrative affairs following his retirement.
Interestingly, Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike entered its 119th day on Monday but his shifting to a private hospital has surprised even the farmers’ union, who are confident that they can now meet their leader.
Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s Detention:
Before being shifted to Patiala, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was detained by the Punjab Police, was kept under tight security at the PWD rest house in Jalandhar Cantonment. The security personnel were given a task to foil any attempt by farmer leaders to reach him. The farmer leader was shifted to Jalandhar following a late-night drama on March 19, during which he was taken to multiple locations following his detention from Mohali.
