Justice Sanjiv Khanna, known for his contributions to several landmark Supreme Court rulings, took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India on Monday. The oath ceremony was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice Khanna succeeds Justice DY Chandrachud, who concluded his tenure as Chief Justice on Friday after a notable term.
The transition in leadership follows an official notification from the Centre on October 24, which confirmed Justice Khanna’s appointment upon Chief Justice Chandrachud’s recommendation on October 16. Justice Chandrachud received a warm farewell from fellow judges, lawyers, and staff from both the Supreme Court and high courts, marking the end of his impactful tenure.
