A well-known university, known as PU University, is being planned to become a central university, which has angered the students there and they have been protesting.Let us tell you in detail about this, the case started when Professor Sangeeta Bhalla of Punjab University raised the issue of retirement of teachers working in the university in the High Court. Giving information in this regard, Prof. Sangeeta Bhalla’s lawyer Sameer Sachdeva said that the Central Service Rules have come into force on March 29, 2022 in Chandigarh. According to which the retirement age of teachers of government colleges including other employees of Chandigarh has been fixed at 65 years. In such a situation a confusion has arisen that the retirement age of university employees is 60 years while the retirement age of government college teachers in the same city is 65 years. The same issue was raised by Professor Sangeeta Bhalla in the Punjab and Haryana High Court .
Hearing the case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued eight-page directions to the Center. It said that the Union Government should give the status of Central University to the Punjab University. To overcome such confusion. At the same time, the High Court has said that it does not see any reason for not granting Central University status to Punjab University. The High Court also directed the concerned ministry to file its reply in the matter by August 30.
But even before the decision of Punjab University on this aspect, all the students and famous artists started raising their voice in favor of not making it a Central University. The students protested loudly and in response the police charged the students with lathi charge and Tear Gas .
