In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old man, Pardeep Singh, lost his life after he was attacked during a brawl at the entrance of a Gurudwara in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab. The incident occurred on March 6 when Pardeep, who had come from Canada, allegedly asked some youth not to play loud music and be respectful while going to the Gurudwara for Hola Mohalla, a three-day Sikh festival.
The scuffle broke out between Pardeep and the group of visitors, and he sustained injuries from sharp weapons, leading to his death. Although dressed like a Nihang, the police confirmed that Pardeep was not associated with any Nihang group. The incident has sparked outrage among the community, and videos of the brawl have gone viral on social media.
An FIR has been registered against unknown people under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) at Anandpur Sahib Police Station. The police are investigating the matter, and strict action is expected against the culprits.
The incident is a sad reminder of the need for peaceful coexistence and respect for each other’s beliefs during religious festivals. The tragedy has shaken the community, and it is hoped that such incidents will not occur in the future, and people will learn to respect each other’s sentiments.
