In a detailed hearing on Monday, the Mohali court dismissed the bail plea filed by Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister, Bikram Singh Majithia, in a disproportionate assets case. Public prosecutor Ferry Sofat confirmed the decision, citing two primary concerns: the ongoing nature of the investigation and the serious alleged offences involved.

The court extensively reviewed arguments over approximately ten days before delivering its verdict. Majithia, currently lodged in New Nabha Jail, Patiala, will remain in judicial custody, with the court extending his detention until August 28.

Majithia was arrested on June 25 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with alleged laundering of over ₹540 crore in drug-related assets. This case is part of a broader probe by a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the 2021 drug case under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
