The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest to senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, in connection with an FIR filed over his controversial grenade-related statement. The court has asked the Punjab Government to file a response and scheduled the next hearing for April 22.
Bajwa had recently stated that 50 grenades had entered Punjab territory, of which 18 had already detonated and 32 were pending. His statement raised serious alarm and led to legal action, prompting him to approach the court for relief.
In the meantime, the court has also directed LoP Partap Singh Bajwa not to issue any public statement in this regard.
The court’s ruling prohibits any arrest until the hearing resumes later this month, providing Bajwa breathing room amid the intensifying political and legal heat. The matter continues to attract public and media attention due to its sensitive nature.
