Controversy has erupted over a documentary film directed by Indian filmmaker Leena Manimekalai. The film’s poster has sparked outrage for hurting Hindu sentiments with its depiction of Goddess Kali. Leena recently shared the poster of her upcoming documentary film on social media. It began as part of the Rhythm of Canada at the Aga Khan Museum. In this poster, a woman in the form of Maa Kali is shown smoking a cigarette.This poster has angered the people of Hindu community. A woman has been dressed as a Hindu goddess. In the photo, she is seen smoking a cigarette. The pride flag of the LGBT community can also be seen in the background.
Users have complained about the filmmaker hurting their religious sentiments through the depiction of the goddess and demanded that the poster be withdrawn.The hashtag Arrest Leena Manimekalai is also trending on Twitter. Gau Mahasabha leader Ajay Gautam has sent a complaint against the film and its poster to the Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs. When controversy started rising over the poster, Leena asked people to choose ‘love over hate’ amid negative backlash. That said, Toronto Metropolitan University invited some of the best film students from across Canada to attend a camp to make films about Canada’s diverse culture.
