In a major relief for commuters, transporters, and tourists, authorities have ordered the temporary suspension of toll collection at the Takoli Toll Plaza on the busy Chandigarh–Manali Highway. The decision comes after weeks of mounting public pressure, with locals and frequent travelers voicing strong opposition to what they described as high toll charges, slow services, and inadequate infrastructure maintenance along the route.

Residents of nearby areas, along with transport unions, had staged multiple demonstrations in recent months. They argued that the toll plaza not only caused traffic congestion but also imposed an unnecessary financial burden on daily commuters, especially when road conditions and amenities failed to meet the standards expected for such charges.

Following these protests, government officials and highway authorities reviewed the situation and agreed to a temporary suspension of toll collection. The orders were formally issued this week, marking a significant win for public advocacy.

The suspension is expected to remain in place until further notice, during which time officials will reportedly assess road infrastructure, address commuter grievances, and explore long-term solutions. This includes possible road repairs, better traffic management, and a fair reassessment of toll rates.
