Spotify Bans Modified Apps, Enforces Strict Measures Against Piracy

Spotify, the world’s leading music-streaming platform, has cracked down on piracy by banning all modified versions of its app. According to a Reddit post, Spotify has implemented API-level changes, ensuring the service works only on the official app. This action comes just days before the much-anticipated Spotify Wrapped 2024, which provides users with an annual summary of their music preferences, including top songs, artists, and albums.

Modified app users now encounter error messages like, “This playlist is empty; go home to find the playlist just for you,” and cannot access music. These users may also miss out on Wrapped 2024 and risk permanent account bans. The decision has sparked widespread reactions on social media.

Spotify Urges Users to Avoid Modded Apps Amid Security Risks

While Spotify can be used for free, Premium plans unlock features like offline downloads and high-quality streaming. Spotify offers enticing plans, such as three months of Premium for Rs 59, to attract new and existing users.

The company also warns of the dangers of using modified apps, which can lead to personal data theft and financial fraud amid rising cybercrimes. Experts emphasize sticking to official apps for safety and reliability.
