The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea filed by Hemkunt Foundation Director Harteerath Singh regarding the recent decision on relocating stray dogs in Delhi to animal shelters. The apex court made it clear that it will entertain submissions only from the Central Government and not from any NGO or private organisation in this matter.

This decision follows a recent Supreme Court order directing that stray dogs in Delhi be moved to designated shelters, amid rising concerns over public safety after multiple incidents of dog bites and rabies-related deaths. Several activists and organisations, including Hemkunt Foundation, had raised objections to the relocation plan, citing animal rights concerns.

During the hearing, the bench emphasised that while the court values the role of NGOs, it believes that in this particular issue, policy and implementation fall under the purview of the Central Government. The court’s stance effectively bars NGOs from making direct submissions in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the matter.
