On 18 June, the Islamic State of Khurasan Province (ISKP) attacked the Karta Parwan shrine in Kabul. Two persons including a Sikh were killed in this deadly attack. According to sources, when the attackers entered the building, about 25 to 30 people were present inside the Gurdwara Sahib for morning prayers. About 10-15 people managed to escape but the guard of the Gurdwara Ahmed was killed by the attackers.
Religious minorities, including the Sikh community, have been the target of violence in Afghanistan. In October last year, 15 to 20 militants entered a shrine in Kabul’s Karat-e-Parwan district and tied up the guards. In March 2020, a deadly attack took place at the Sri Guru Harirai Sahib Gurdwara in the Chota Bazaar area of Kabul, killing 27 Sikhs and injuring many more. Islamic State militants have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, the Taliban-led Afghan government has decided to renovate Gurdwara Karta Parwan in Kabul, which was damaged in a terrorist attack.Sources say that a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs made several visits to the shrine to sympathize with the families of the victims. A technical team was also dispatched to assess the level of damage to the capital’s remaining Sikh shrines. According to the information received, the Taliban government will spend 75 lakh Afghan money for the renovation of the building.
