Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited (CITCO) is set to auction two high-end cars belonging to two guests who allegedly stayed at Hotel Shivalikview for months in 2018 without paying their bills. Ashwani Kumar Chopra and Ramnik Bansal are said to have enjoyed hotel services such as food, laundry, and hard drinks during their stay. Despite giving three cheques for Rs 6 lakh each, they were reportedly dishonored.
After CITCO moved court seeking the attachment and auction of the cars to recover the arrears, a local court ordered the auctioning of an Audi and a Chevrolet Cruze belonging to the guests. The auction is set to take place on February 14 and the highest bidder will be declared the purchaser of the cars, which have been parked at the hotel entrance for the past five years.
One of the guests is said to have tried to flee the hotel without making the payment, but was prevented by the hotel’s security. The guest left his Audi Q3 in the parking area and gave the keys to CITCO as security for the dues, with the police present at the time. The second guest also gave the keys to his Chevrolet Cruze to the hotel staff, promising to clear the dues. The court has adjourned the case for January 7, 2023, for the filing of the report of the auction.
