Our Score

“Buhe Bariyan” emerges as a cinematic jewel, intertwining compelling storytelling with powerful performances. Set against the backdrop of a patriarchal society, the film takes a deep dive into feminism, societal norms, and resilience. From the impeccable portrayal of characters by Neeru Bajwa and Nirmal Rishi to the soulful musical compositions, every element complements the narrative. Dive into our detailed review to uncover the nuances of this captivating drama.

1. Acting & Dialogues:
When it comes to performances, “Buhe Bariyan” is a showcase of talent. At the forefront, we have the captivating Neeru Bajwa portraying the role of Prem Kaur, and her portrayal is nothing less than splendid. This is not the Neeru Bajwa we’ve seen in previous roles; her character’s depth and nuances have been captured beautifully, making us wish she had more screen time.

However, Nirmal Rishi steals the limelight with her stellar performance. Each time she graces the screen, she leaves us in awe, questioning how she consistently delivers such incredible performances. The film is also supported by commendable acts from Rubina Bajwa, Gurpreet Bhangu, Anita Meet, Seema Kaushal, Jatinder Kaur, Rupinder Rupi, and others, making it a rich tapestry of acting finesse.

2. Direction:
Uday Pratap Singh and his team have done a formidable job in steering the direction of this film. Given the extensive and immensely talented cast, managing such dynamics could easily become overwhelming. Yet, the film never felt overdone. Although there were certain points, particularly the screenplay in the middle, where the plot felt a bit muddled, and Neeru Bajwa’s limited screen time felt like a missed opportunity. With a few tweaks, this could have been a perfect directional masterpiece.

3. Songs & Background Music:
Experiencing the film’s music in theaters elevates the whole ambiance. Each song is strategically placed, aligning perfectly with the situations, enhancing the emotional depth of the scenes. The background music, composed by Kevin Roy, seamlessly flows with the film’s narrative, ensuring audiences are engrossed throughout.

4. Visuals:
The visual aesthetics of “Buhe Bariyan” are reminiscent of the teal and orange tones seen in many Hollywood series. However, what makes it stand out is its impressive execution in terms of graphics, special effects, and other visual elements. The meticulous preparation is evident, making it a visual treat for the audience.

5. Story:
Delving into the heart of the film, the story is a potent commentary on feminism set against a backdrop of a patriarchal society. The narrative revolves around Bhuro Bebe (Nirmal Rishi) and her relentless efforts to uplift and support oppressed women. As the plot unfolds with her decision to contest in Sarpanchi elections and the challenges she faces, we’re constantly engaged, anticipating her next move. While the story does take unexpected turns, its uniqueness and the powerful message on women’s rights and issues make it impactful. Some plot diversions in the middle could have been tightened, but the ending compensates for the minor lapses.
